New Delhi: Ending days of speculation, SM Krishna has finally stepped down as Maharashtra Governor. He submitted the resignation letter to President Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday evening.
In an interview to CNN-IBN's DP Satish, Krishna outlines his future plans. Excerpts:-
CNN-IBN:What is your top priority?
SM Krishna: Well, I want to bring the Congress back to power (in Karnataka). I want to make the party militant enough to fight the elections. Want to instill confidence. We should be in a position to face the future challenges.
CNN-IBN: The Congress is on the downswing in Karnataka.
SM Krishna: It may be your interpretation. It may be your way of looking at the party. KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge has done a fairly good job. The party is in a good shape.
CNN-IBN: What is going to be your main job?
SM Krishna: It is my endeavour. I want to bring the Congress back to power. A full-fledged, stable Congress Government in the state. I am going back to Karnataka to join thousands and thousands of party workers to rebuild the party. Nobody is my archrival in the Opposition. All are just rivals. I appeal to all my party colleagues to sink their differences to work for the party.
CNN-IBN: What about HD Deve Gowda?
SM Krishna: Nobody is my archrival in politics. All are just rivals. Deve Gowda also runs a party. He is also my opponent. I will have to fight him.
CNN-IBN: And BJP?
SM Krishna: By the virtue of sheer numerical strength in the dissolved Assembly, the BJP was the single largest party. Our main fight will be with the BJP. Not with JD(S).
CNN-IBN:What is your message to party workers and the leaders who aren't happy with your return?
SM Krishna: We should forget all our differences. We should work for the party. Karnataka is such a good state. Karnataka is such a solid state for the Congress. Barring a few aberrations here and there, the party workers have been good. We must bring the Congress back to power.
