New Delhi: Deepak Bhojwani, the first prosecution witness in the Jessica Lall murder case, is returning to India from South Africa to clarify his position in the high-profile case.
Top criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani had last week cited Bhojwani's deposition to build up his argument that Jessica was killed by a ‘tall Sikh' and not by his client Manu Sharma.
South Africa-based Bhojwani says he is returning to Delhi to ''clear a number of things'' being attributed to him by Jethmalani.
Earlier during an argument before a bench of the Delhi High Court Jethmalani had said that the prosecution witness Deepak Bhojwani was planted by police to give statement against Sharma.
Countering the prosecution's argument that Sharma had introduced himself to Bhojwani during a brief conversation few hours before the incident, Jethmalani said Bhojwani was brought into picture by the Delhi police to save its own policeman who had really shot at Jessica on the intervening night of 28-29 April 1999.
The defence in Jessica Lall case has used Bhojwani’s statement saying while he was moving around in the party he came in contact with Sharma. Sharma requested him to arrange liquor for him following which he told him that the bar had closed.
Then one “Sikh gentleman” came and told him something and took him away towards the Tamarind Cafe.
After 15-20 minutes, Bhojwani said he heard somebody saying that Jessica was shot. He rushed towards the Tamarind Café and saw Jessica lying on the floor.
