The city-dwellers who depend upon hotels for daily food had a tough time on Saturday as the eateries in the city remained closed during the entire day.
The 24-hour strike called by the Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association and the South Kerala Hoteliers Forum unsettled the daily routine of many.
“I found it really difficult without no hotels and restaurants around to break my Ramzan fasting. It was the first day of Ramzan and I depended mainly on fruits and snacks from bakeries after fasting for the whole day,” said Firoz Najeeb, a techie working at Infopark.
The athletes, teachers and coaches who took part in the state inter-club athletics championship at the Maharaja’s College Ground too had a hard time despite the efforts made by the organisers to solve the crisis.
Earlier, the trade bodies decided to close down all hotels and restaurants in protest of the raids conducted by the Health Department to check the quality of food supplied in the hotels.
