BERHAMPUR: A team of K Nuagaon police in Ganjam district arrived at MKCG Medical here on Monday to investigate the death of two children in a fire mishap near a brick kiln. Two siblings were charred to death and two others have been battling for life in the hospital. The incident that took place in a brick kiln under K. Nuagaon police limits on January 20 night came to light only on Sunday. Sources said Bhagaban Bariha of Kulamal village under Khaprakhol police limits in Balangir was staying here in a hut with his wife and five kids.On the fateful night while the couple along with their eldest daughter were working in the kiln, four remaining kids were asleep in the hut. The sparks from the stove spread and the straw and the polythene kept near it caught fire and soon took the hut into its flames. The couple noticed the flames only after smoke emanated from the hut and rushed home to see the four kids seriously burnt. The four were taken to MKCG Medical but the police were not informed. However, Amit (7) died soon after reaching the hospital while his 11-year-old sister Deepa died the following day in the hospital. Two younger kids Pramila and Subha are fighting for their lives.
