Mirzapur Accident: 10 Labourers Killed as 'Out of Control' Truck Sends Tractor Into Drain

In a tragic accident late Thursday night near Katka village in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur, 10 workers lost their lives in a severe collision between a speeding truck and a tractor. The workers were returning home after work in Badhohi district when the accident occurred.

In addition to the 10 fatalities, three others were seriously injured and have been referred to the Varanasi Trauma Centre for treatment.

Upon receiving news of the accident, senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP), rushed to the scene to oversee the rescue operation. The deceased and injured workers have been identified as residents of Mirzamurad in Varanasi district.

According to eyewitnesses, the “out-of-control” truck first hit a motorbike before colliding with the tractor. The impact was so severe that the tractor was thrown into a nearby drain, while the truck mounted another vehicle already into the drain.

Police were informed of the accident around 12:30am. Forces from nearby police stations, led by CO Amar Bahadur, arrived at the site and the rescue operation continued through the night.

With the help of cranes, the vehicles were retrieved from the drain.

Following the accident, local residents blocked the road. SP Abhinandan addressed the concerns of the crowd and successfully cleared the blockade, allowing traffic to resume.

The workers who lost their lives has been identified as Bhanu Pratap (26), Anil Kumar (35), Suraj (24), Vikas (24), Nanak (18), Nitin (22), Munna (25), Terru (25), Sanohar (24), and Prem Shankar (40).
