Good News For Australia! Cameron Green Set To Start As Pure Batter In Border-Gavaskar Trophy – Report
Cameron Green, who has played in 28 Tests for Australia so far, suffered a back injury during the third ODI of the five-match series against England last month.

Star Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who suffered an injury during the third ODI of the five-match series against England last month, is expected to be fit on time for the Test series against India, which is set to start on November 22 in Perth. According to a report in The Age on Tuesday (October 8), Green, who was initially feared to miss the entire 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will be available to play against India as a batter from the start of the series, and there’s a possibility that he may be bowling again by the end of the home series.

Cricket Australia is set to formally announce the nature of Green’s back injury later this week. But, according to three sources, planning has already commenced to work around Green’s likely inability to bowl until the Test summer is well advanced.

He is already ruled out of the first round of Sheffield Shield, which will start this week, and is unlikely to play in the second round as well. But there is a possibility that he will play as a batter for Australia A in the match against India A at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in November.

According to former Australian team doctor Peter Brukner, a back stress injury would not prevent Green from batting or fielding in Test matches once any initial pain had subsided and the bone began to heal.

“The load comes mainly from bowling—batting and fielding don’t put a huge load on that part of the body, so it’s feasible that once the pain settles down you can bat and field without too many problems and feel fine,” Brukner was quoted as saying by the Age.

“It’s just that if you were to bowl 10 overs, you’d probably break down again. So it’s a case of slowly building up the load so the bone basically adjusts to the load and gets stronger. There’s a bit of an art to it,” he added.

Green, who was part of Australia’s 2023 WTC final-winning team, has played 28 Tests so far in which he has scored 1377 runs and picked up 35 wickets.
