A pension scheme wherein farmers above the age of 60 years will get a monthly pension of Rs 800 will be launched by the Uttarakhand government on this Independence Day.
The scheme has been initiated to encourage people, especially in the hilly areas, to take up farming, Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said, adding, inclination of the people towards agriculture has been waning recently.
According to this scheme, the farmers would be given a monthly pension of Rs 800, he said.
This scheme will benefit those farmers who do not get pension under any other scheme. All the district officials have been directed to identify 100 such beneficiaries in their areas who will be given the pension on Independence Day, said S Raju, Chief Secretary, Social Welfare department.
