Sachin Pilgaonkar Recalls How This Childhood Incident Made Him Take Up Singing
He started his training right from the age of 7 and turned himself into an accomplished singer.

Sachin Pilgaonkar is a well-known name in the Marathi film industry. Recently, he recorded a special song on the occasion of the Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. He re-recorded the song, Mangal Bhawan Amangal Haari. He lip-synched to it during his role in the 1975 film Geet Gaata Chal. With over 200 songs to his credit, Sachin Pilgaonkar made his devotional song debut with Ramayan Ki Chaupaiyan Ram Siya Ram. Deepak Pandit composed the song; Ravindra Jain wrote the melody and lyrics for the original, which was sung by Jaspal Singh. Sachin says it was overwhelming to sing, as such opportunities “can only come to you and you can’t think of getting or chasing them”.

Sachin has previously sung for many of his Marathi productions. How did the actor turn to singing? In a chat with News18 Marathi, he recalls a humiliation he endured in his formative years. Recalling the incident, Sachin Pilgaonkar says that he once visited a relative’s home along with his parents, both of whom were accomplished singers. His mother was asked to sing a song and he joined in with her. His uncle stopped him, calling him besura or dissonant and told him he could not sing.

This insult stayed with Sachin Pilgaonkar and he stubbornly decided to learn singing, come what may. He started his training right from the age of 7 and turned himself into an accomplished singer. In a separate interview with another media portal, Sachin said that a lot of things took the front seat in his life, acting being one of them, while singing took a back seat. This is the reason, according to him, that many fans do not know that he already has 200 songs to his credit. He says he is sure that they must have heard the songs, but did not have the idea that they were sung by himself.
