New Delhi: The mid day meal horror continues not just in Bihar, but other states too. Insects and worms have been found in a mid day meal kitchen in a school in Punjab's Amritsar by inspection authorities.
The students of the school have also alleged that they have found worms and insects in their food often and that the water is bitter. Even the water that is used for cooking is believed to be contaminated.
Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, 66 students fainted after consuming the mid day meal in Neyveli. The children are reported to be stable and a medical team has rushed to Neyveli from Cuddalore.
These two cases come just days after 22 children died in a school in Bihar's Chhapra after eating the mid day meal. The HRD Ministry has set up a new committee to look into the quality of mid day meals. "The focus is that this does not happen again. Time has come to strengthen the programme and form another committee to look into the quality of food and hygiene," said HRD Minister Pallam Raju.
Meanwhile, there have been no arrests over the death of the 22 children yet in Chhapra yet. Several children are still fighting for their lives and some are in a critical condition in the hospital.
