BALASORE: Over 45 villages in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts remained marooned as flash floods in the Budhabalanga, the Subarnarekha, the Jalaka and the Gangahar rivers hit the two northern districts on Saturday. Several parts of Baripada town were inundated by the flood water of the Budhabalanga. With the water flowing over some of the arterial roads in both the districts, vehicular movement was disrupted. Sources said over 50,000 people in the districts have been affected while crops over 10,000 acres damaged.   The marooned villages in Remuna block of Balasore district include Kasimpur, Keshpur, Badapal, Salukia, Mareigaon, Mahantipada, Barabanka, Jhampra, Srikrushnapur, Kalyanpur and Budagaon. Similarly, Chunabati in Balasore town was inundated damaging over 50 houses in Talasahi. In Mayurbhanj, the Budhabalanga water entered 30 villages. The affected villages included Adadiha, Kunjibania, Dumuria, Palapatana, Astia, Kathapal, Dariha, Madhunada and Deopada. Sources said the flood water was flowing over Kashimpur-Badapal, Khirachora-Salukia, Chunabhati roads in Balasore district and Badasahi-Baisinga, Badasahi-Udala and Manatri-Bhimda roads in Mayurbhanj district. There is relief is in sight though. Official sources said water level in the Budhabalanga and the Subarnarekha was decreasing. While the Sono, Gangahar and Jalaka were flowing above the danger mark, water level in the Budhabalanga was at 7.92 metre against its red mark of 8.13.  Meanwhile, the affected people alleged that the district administration was yet to reach them.   Remuna MLA Sudarshan Jena and Tehsildar Manas Padhi have visited several flood-hit villages in  Remuna block.   Balasore Collector Akhila Bihari Ota said there was let-up in the flood situation in the district as the water level in major rivers is decreasing. “We will provide relief to the affected as per the State Relief Code,” he added.
