Sharad Purnima Tithi is a religious festival celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu lunar month of Ashvin, marking the end of the monsoon season. Purnima Day is considered auspicious for starting a new business or work. Sharad Purnima is supposed to be special among all the Purnimas. It celebrates the night when Lord Krishna danced with the gopis of Braj. Hence, also called Raas Purnima. On this day, the Hindu pairs like Radha-Krishna, Shiva-Parvati and Lakshmi Narayana were worshipped along with the moon deity. They offer flowers and Kheer on this day for a longer and healthier life. On this day, it is believed that the moon is present in all its 16 phases. Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, the renowned astrologer of Mudgal Jyotish Kendra located at Pagal Baba Ashram in Devghar explains the significance of Sharad Purnima, kheer rituals and dates.

Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal told Local 18 that every year the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month is called Sharad Purnima. On this day Goddess Lakshmi believes to roam on Earth. As per Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, this year, the full moon date will start from 7:56 pm on October 16. It will end the next day i.e. October 17 at 4:37 pm.

On the day of Sharad Purnima, there is a ritual of worshipping the moon at night and keeping Kheer in the open sky. Therefore, the full moon fast will be kept on October 16. This year Ravi Yoga is also being formed on the day of Sharad Purnima.

Deoghar Astrologers ask the devotees to keep the kheer in the open sky in the courtyard of their house after 9 pm. The Kheer should be made of cow’s milk only. It is believed that medicinal properties will be present in the kheer after keeping it in the open sky. One should take a bath in Brahma Muhurta and consume the Kheer.

Astrologers say that on the day of Sharad Purnima, medicinal properties rain down from the moon on the earth and fall on the kheer. Consuming that kheer the next day will have a positive effect on health. With this, happiness and prosperity increase in the house with the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
