Zurich: Brazil are the sole remaining candidate to host the 2014 World Cup now that Colombia are out of the running.
Brazil submitted their bidding agreement forms on Friday before the April 16 deadline, while FIFA said the Colombian football association pulled out on Wednesday. No reasons were given for the decision.
Brazil now have to provide the necessary government guarantees and complete their bid by the end of July.
FIFA will then visit Brazil in September and its inspection group will submit a report by November 1.
The FIFA executive committee is expected to name the host nation later in November.
In Brazil, the sports minister said the country was confident it would get approval and eager to show it was prepared to stage the World Cup.
"I am confident we will win (approval)," minister Orlando Silva de Jesus Junior said. "We will show FIFA's executive committee that Brazil has the capacity to be the host."
Brazil have won a record five World Cup titles but staged the event only once, in 1950 Brazil were favoured to win but were upset in the final by Uruguay.
Silva de Jesus Junior and Ricardo Teixeira, president of the Brazilian football Confederation, met on Friday with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva - an ardent football fan - to discuss the process of winning FIFA approval.
Silva de Jesus Junior said Brazil planned to offer 18 stadiums to host World Cup games, and FIFA will choose from among them. No estimate of costs was available, he said.
But Teixeira said Silva was solidly behind the project
Silva is "an impassioned football fan and very enthusiastic," Teixeira said. "He placed himself at our disposal to help us at the international level."
