A gigantic naked statue resembling former US President Donald Trump was removed from its site after being displayed over the weekend near a highway in Las Vegas. The installation, titled ‘Crooked and Obscene’, will crisscross the United States as part of a tour weeks before the presidential elections on November 5.
The statue, made of foam over rebar, was displayed in a fenced-in lot near Interstate 15 north of Las Vegas in the state of Nevada. Measuring 43 feet and weighing 2,722 kg, it attracted a small crowd but was not easily visible from the highway and fewer people could see it if they drove by.
Many who did notice it stopped to take pictures of the giant effigy, which was a close impression of Trump, who is taking on Vice President Kamala Harris for the POTUS seat in a closely contested race.
While the crowd was nothing compared to the large number of people who attend his rallies, those curious enough said it was a “funny gesture” in the context of the upcoming elections while some others said it was “disrespectful” and “creative”.
“It just gives a sign of laughter to the world, seeing a big, huge statue of Donald Trump naked,” 32-year-old Nathan Oubre, who is a gas worker, told New York Post.
The New York Post reported that the Nevada Grand Old Party (GOP), however, condemned the statue and called it “offensive”. Accusing the Democrats of employing “shock tactics”, it said it was designed for anything other than a meaningful conversation.
“I was a little worried about him getting a sunburn, but other than that, I love it,” 53-year-old Alex Lannin was quoted. He brought his friend Honey Hunter to see it, who called it “very creative”.
