A Noida woman’s plan to prepare a mango shake for her five-year-old son turned south when she found a frozen centipede inside a tub of Amul ice cream, which she ordered from the 10-minute grocery delivery platform Blinkit.
The incident, which reportedly occurred in Sector 12 of Noida, sparked concerns over food safety standards after a video of the unsettling find went viral on social media platform X. This incident comes days after a Mumbaiker found a human finger inside his butterscotch ice cream cone.
pic.twitter.com/guhgW3bnby— Sachin Gupta (@SachinGuptaUP) June 15, 2024
In the widely circulated clip, “Deepa Devi”, the woman in question, narrates how she intended to use the ice cream as an ingredient in the shake but was shocked to find the “arthropod” clinging to the underside of the ice cream lid. The footage has gained thousands of views online and prompted swift reactions from social media users. Dozens of people online are questioning warehouse hygiene and product handling practices.
“Noida woman finds centipede in Amul ice cream she ordered online. Just days back, a Mumbai resident found a human finger inside an ice cream his sister had ordered for him,” wrote a shocked user. Another said, “Warehouses do not maintain hygiene. Rats roam around in their warehouses and goods are scattered on the floor. Foods should be ordered from those whose audit report is good.” Some users went on to question Amul. “@amulcares do you have any clarification for this? What action did you take? kindly update,” said one of the users.

After the unpleasant discovery, Deepa immediately contacted Blinkit which promptly refunded the Rs 195 cost of the ice cream. Meanwhile, Blinkit assured her that they had escalated the matter to Amul for further probe into the incident. These back-to-back incidents highlight growing concerns about food safety and quality control in India’s e-commerce and food delivery sectors.
