New Delhi: Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta initiated the discussion on price rise in the Lok Sabha on Thursday saying that inflation figures falling is just a seasonal respite.
Speaking in the lower house of Parliament, the CPI leader said that prices were rising incessantly and the government is not taking any action.
"Price is incessant over years and the government inaction is also persisting," Gurudas said.
He also ridiculed the Planning Commission saying that the committee had said that because people are eating more, food inflation is rising.
"In a country with maximum number of poor people says that people are eating more leading to increase in food inflation, this being said by the Planning Commission," he said.
Gurudas said that because of constant price rise, the country is on its way to recession. He also said that the government has failed to manage the food market of the country.
He pointed out that even though food prices were rising, the price of alcohol has still not risen.
"Food prices for poor is going up but price of whisky has not gone up. I thank the government. Roti mat khao, bas peete raho," Gurudas said.
Gurudas said that he is surprised that inflation and slow economics were being compared.
He said, "Inflation cannot be connected with slow down in economics, surprisingly it is being compared."
