Mukul Roy filed a criminal defamation case against Gautam Deb for alleging that the party was using black money.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy on Tuesday filed a criminal defamation case against CPM leader Gautam Deb for alleging that the party was using black money as election fund in a city court, which issued summons to the housing minister to appear before it on May 26.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Bankshall Court, Rabiranjan Chatterjee taking cognizance of the complaint by the Union Minister of State for Shipping issued the summons against Deb asking him to appear before it on May 26, when the matter would be taken up for hearing.

Deb, the spearhead of the Left Front's election campaign against Trinamool Congress, alleged in television interviews and election meetings that Trinamool was channelising black money for election expenses for the ongoing Assembly polls in West Bengal, according to the petition filed before the court.

The petition claimed that the allegations were baseless and without any proof whatsoever, and that it was a vilification campaign against Trinamool Congress by Deb.
