Telangana: PM meets BJP leaders, Congress says will table Bill on Thursday
The BJP asked the government to strike a fine tune amongst its own MPs first over the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

New Delhi: In a last ditch effort to get the principal opposition by its side on the Telangana issue, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met the BJP leaders over lunch on Wednesday and discussed the need to pass the Bill.

Even as the BJP did not make it clear whether it would co-operate in the passage of Telangana Bill in Parliament, the Congress insists that it would at least table the Bill on Thursday.

The BJP told the government to strike a fine tune amongst its own MPs first.

The BJP's reference was to the Congress MPs from Seemandhra and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy who have expressed their stringent opposition to the bifurcation of state.

The BJP also targeted the UPA government for trying to a number of bills including the anti-corruption bill just two months ahead of Lok Sabha elections.

It conveyed to the government that it had no issues with the Telangana Bill but everyone's concerns must be addressed.

While party President Rajnath Singh and senior leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley attended the meet on the behalf of BJP, Union Ministers P Chidambaram, AK Antony, Kamal Nath and Sushil Kumar Shinde rallied behind Prime Minister representing the UPA camp.
