Politics has begun over the rape of two minors in the national capital as leaders across the political line are busy in blaming each other for these incidents.
Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday lashed out at the current CM, Arvind Kejriwal, for blaming Central government for the crimes. Dikshit said it is wrong to blame Prime Minister Narendra Modi as state administration comes under Delhi government. "It is wrong to blame the Prime Minister. Administration comes under Delhi government. Police must be divided, one to look after VVIPs and diplomats, and other for law and order," she said.
The sharp-tongued Kejriwal attacked both Modi and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung over the security situation in the national capital. "Repeated rape of minors is shameful and worrying. Delhi Police has completely failed to provide safety. What are PM and his LG doing?" the Chief Minister tweeted. He said that he will not remain silent when crime is on the rise in the capital adding that L-G should be more cooperative and work with the Delhi government.
His attack came soon after two separate incidents of rapes of minors were reported in the capital on Friday. Kejriwal met the survivors of the rape survivors in the hospitals.
Meanwhile, a senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa made an absolutely insensitive comment about rape while talking to a female reporter, he said that parties can't do anything if someone abducts a girl and rapes her. This reply of veteran BJP leader not only shocked the lady journalist, who asked the poser to him, but also sent shock waves across the state.
When the reporter asked, "Has BJP, being the main opposition party, failed in voicing its concerns and make the government bring down crime rate in the state?". To this, he retorted, saying "Look now you are here.. If somebody drags and rapes you.. the opposition party will be somewhere else. what can we do for that."
In a gruesome incident, a 2.5-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Nangloi area of the capital on Friday. A case has been registered while the accused are still at large.
In a separate incident on the same day, a five-year-old was also raped allegedly by three men in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area. The girl was reportedly alone at home when one of the accused, her neighbour, took her to his house and then allegedly raped her along with his friends.
The victim's parents were not at home when the incident happened. The suspect is said to have lured her on some pretext and sexually assaulted her. The cries of the girl alerted other neighbours, who thrashed the three suspects and handed them over to the police. The girl has been admitted to GTB Hospital where her condition is said to be stable.
"She was crying and her clothes were soaked with blood," said one of the neighbours who saw her coming out of the house.
