Over the seasons, the contest between the two teams has become one the biggest rivalries in the league’s history. They are the joint most successful teams in the history of the competition, having won the title five times each. This will be the 37th time that they will be locking horns in IPL.
This time, however, neither Rohit Sharma nor MS Dhoni will be leading either of the two sides. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Hardik Pandya have now taken up the mantle from their seniors to lead Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians respectively into a new era.
Well, for now the fixture got off to a fiery start from one skipper, as Chennai Super Kings put up a total of 206 runs for the loss of four wickets in the first innings.
A captain’s knock of 60 off 40 deliveries from Gaikwad and an unbeaten 66 off 38 deliveries from southpaw Shivam Dube helped Chennai recuperate after a rather slow start before MS Dhoni closed out the innings with three sixers off the final four deliveries to take Chennai past the 200-run mark.
