Bangalore: Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, in charge of Congress Tamil Nadu affairs, on Wednesday said no single individual could be held responsible for distribution of tickets for the assembly elections as the party had a proper
system in place for ensuring the same.
Replying to a question over complaints that Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K V Thangkabalu, also a close associate of Azad, had secured tickets for his wife and close aides at the cost of party functionaries, he said, "I don't think the TNCC President alone distributes tickets."
"We have a proper system, we have a state election body, then we have a security committee, a central election committee which distributes tickets, so no individual person can or should be held responsible", he said on the sidelines of a convocation function here.
To a question on how his party's alliance with the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu was faring,he said "The alliance with DMK is okay. I sure that we will 100 per cent win. The DMK-Congress alliance is quite formidable and comfortable", he said.
On whether he was concerned over the impact of 2G spectrum scam on the poll outcome, he said whenever there is a scam, and if one tries to cover up then people would not like it. "But if at all there is a scam, I think no government in power could have taken such a drastic step which government of India has taken. I think people of India and voters in the country should appreciate the fearlessness on part of the government."
"Inspite of being one of our allies (DMK)... the government has taken all action as required by the law, that is appreciable, you need a government which will not cover up issue or scandals but will try it utmost to unearth the
scandal, if any, and that has to be appreciated and highlighted", he said.
Taking a dig at the BJP, he said there are "scandals" in Karnataka "but nobody is moving, nobody is taking any action." "We must appreciate the government (UPA) dropping a minister (former Telecom Minister and DMK leader A Raja),
arresting him, putting him in jail. But here in Karnataka there are so many things, so many scandals, but nothing is happening," he said, adding, that is the difference between the UPA government and other governments.
