'No decision on scrapping Peddar Rd flyover yet'
A delegation of MNS met Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on the Pedder Road flyover controversy.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday said that no decision had been taken on scrapping the Peddar Road flyover in Mumbai.

"No decision has been taken on scrapping the Peddar Road flyover. Public Hearing is on," Chavan told a delegation of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders.

The delegation comprised party legislators and office-bearers, who demanded that the Peddar Road flyover should be on track.

The meeting took place at Sahaydri guest-house. MNS legislator Bala Nandgaonkar said, Chavan said he was not aware of the latest status of the project and decision on scrapping it had not been taken.

"Jayant Patil, Mumbai city's Guardian Minister says the project has been scrapped and Chavan says he is not aware. We have warned that if the Peddar Road flyover does not happen, the party will not allow any flyover in Mumbai," Nandgaonkar said.

The flyover project ran into controversy a few years ago, when Peddar Road's most famous residents – Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale opposed it.
