New Delhi: Speaking at the memorial event for the two Trinamool workers gunned down by Maoists in Purulia, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has hit out at Maoists, calling them criminals.
"It won't be wrong to call the Maoists a notorious criminal gang or supari killers. They say they work for the poor, but do these victims of their violence look like they deserve it? TMC works for the poor, then why do they work against us," she said.
"Peace is a continuous process and will continue. With killings on one hand, the government will not just stand and watch. We have to protect the people. For Maoists, supari killers is an understatement. They are criminals. Anyone supporting Maoists knowingly or unknowingly is a criminal," she said.
Mamata Banerjee also said, "They are seen in Kolkata, Uttarpara, Konnagar, at the Coffee House and the Basanta Cabin on College Street. Ordinary people should keep a close watch on them. Hope the Left criticizes the Maoists and not the TMC since they have also lost their men."
"Many CPM men have switched camps and are now acting as Maoist killers. Marxist during day and Maoist at night this is no way to dislodge the TMC. Mamata has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation and a job for the next of dead.
