New Delhi: At a time when Left-wing extremism is reasserting itself, the Chief Ministers will meet the top two of the UPA government. After a series of letters on a host of issues it is now time for some straight talk across the table with states accusing the Centre of overlooking federal dharma.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had said, "This is another example of Centre's overreach."
Setting the tone of what's bound to be a stormy day-long session was the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In it, Modi has opposed the Centre's move to amend the BSF Act 1968, dubbing it as the Centre's attempt to create a state within a state.
While a separate meeting on the Centre's propose anti-terror centre, the NCTC, will take place next month, this meeting will focus on the current internal security situation in India. Apart from Naxalism, insurgency in the North-East, police reforms are also on the agenda.
At the National Development Council meet in October 2011, the Chief Ministers of the non-Congress ruled states had jointly attacked the Centre calling it anti-states.
What could be a little relief for the Prime Minister though this time around would be the absence of his ally, the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.
