New Delhi: Maoists attacked the convoy of Independent MP and former Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari on Saturday in Latehar district. The MP came out of it safe but 11 policemen and one civilian have died.
The MP's escort vehicle had taken the impact of the blast.
"The MP was returning after attending a function at Mahuatand in Latehar when an explosion took place at Ladu More. But his escort vehicle came under the impact of the explosion," Inspector General of Police (Operation) RK Malik said.
The Inspector General of Police (Zonal), Rezi Dungdung, said additional forces were rushed to the spot under the leadership of an assistant commandant of the CRPF.
Contacted, Namdhari said he was returning after attending a function in Latehar when his car shook under the impact of the explosion.
"We heard an explosion, but we didn't stop the car. I had never heard such a strong explosion ever before. The policemen were in the car behind us and weren't able to move as fast as us," Namdhari said.
