The meeting between the Jat leaders and Haryana government to resolve tension over the reservation issue has ended. The Jat leaders have decided to give time to the government till the end of the current Assembly session on March 31 and will thereafter take a final call on the future course of action.
Soon after the meeting, the Jat leaders said all 7 demands put forth by the community were discussed. "We have been assured that our demands will be conveyed to the Centre. There will be no agitation for now. We have set a deadline till March 31 when the assembly session ends," a Jat leader said.
The Union Home Ministry has also been in constant touch with Haryana government over the Jat protests. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to Chief Minister ML Khattar and also briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.
The Centre has also asked the state government to enforce rule of law strictly and not allow protesters to take law in their hands.
Meanwhile, the state government has taken several precautionary measures. Mobile internet services have been suspended in Rohtak, Jhajjar and Sonipat districts.
