BJP says aim is to defeat 'corrupt forces' responsible for series of scams and price rise.

Madurai: BJP on Tuesday said it was not averse to a tie-up with AIADMK for coming Tamil Nadu assembly polls as it favoured a broad-based alliance to defeat 'corrupt forces' responsible for a series of scams and sharp price rise.

"As of now, we want to join hands with like-minded parties...If AIADMK feels that the time is ripe to join us, they are welcome," senior party leader Bangaru Laxman, party's incharge of election affairs in Tamil Nadu, told reporters here.

He, however, said BJP was prepared to go it alone if no one came forward for an alliance.

BJP, which had contested the last assembly and Lok Sabha polls in the state alone drawing a blank, was making all efforts to make its effective presence in the state assembly.

"If AIADMK feels the time is ripe to join us, they are welcome. Even if the Left is in alliance with AIADMK, we are not going to contest in places where Left is contesting. So, there is no problem," he said.

He said alleged corruption in 2G spectrum allocation and price rise during UPA rule would be key issues in the elections due in May.

Alleged diversion of the Scheduled Caste development funds for distribution of free Colour TVs and Re one a kg rice scheme and usurping of lands of SC people by influential persons would also be among other issues, he said.

He criticised the government for allowing export of sugar and onion though it was fully aware that the agricultural production had dropped.
