Khanduri returned as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand after a gap of three years.

New Delhi: Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri on Sunday was sworn in as the new Uttarakhand Chief Minister replacing Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who had resigned on Sunday.

Nishank, after submitting his resignation, said, "I'm a party worker. I will do whatever the party wants me to do." After two long rounds of talks with Nishank in Delhi, the BJP top brass had convinced him to step down from the post in the wake of a series of alleged scams against his government.

Sources said though the decision to remove Nishank had been taken at the Parliamentary Board meeting of the party last Friday, the BJP top brass did not want to ruffle any feather by sacking 54-year-old Nishank unceremoniously.

Khanduri returned as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand after a gap of three years.

Governor Margaret Alva administered the oath of office and secrecy to Khanduri, who returns to the top post two years after he was removed by the party after it lost all the five Lok Sabha seats in the 2009 general elections.

All the eleven ministers, who were part of Nishank cabinet, have been retained by Khanduri.

The cabinet ministers who took oath at the function at Rangers Ground in Dehradun were Matbar Singh Kandari, Banshidhar Bhagat, Prakash Pant, Diwakar Bhatt, Madan Kaushik, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Govind Singh Bist, Vijaya Barthwal, Khajan Das and Balwant Singh Bhoryal.
