Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government would abide by the decision of the Centre on the Telangana issue, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said in the legislative council on Tuesday.
Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address, he said the Centre would soon call a meeting of political parties from the state to discuss the Srikrishna committee report.
Noting that the Telangana issue was in the final stage of consideration by the Centre, Reddy said the political parties and other groups should be patient, till a decision was taken. Responding to a suggestion from a CPI MLC, he said he would urge the Centre to convene the meeting of parties from the state at the earliest.
Describing the pro-Telangana students as "our own children", he said they should concentrate on their studies. The state government did not hesitate to withdraw the cases against the students when there was a demand, he said. He appealed to the government employees in Telangana to call off their non-cooperation and get back to work.
The Chief Minister, however, asserted that the government had the responsibility to maintain law and order. CPI member Puvvada Nageswara Rao and CPI(M) member Ch Sitaramulu said the Centre should take a quick decision on the issue.
