After LS, absentee MPs 'virus' afflicts Rajya Sabha
Six Rajya Sabha MPs, whose questions were listed, were absent.

New Delhi: An upset Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari on Tuesday said it looked as if the "virus" of absenteeism by Member of Parliament (MPs) during Question Hour has spread to the Upper House.

"Is there a virus?" he remarked after noticing that six of the members, whose questions were listed for reply, were absent.

"I think so," Ansari said when a member commented that it seems the problem of members missing during question hour in Lok Sabha has also affected the House of Elders as well.

Those absent on Tuesday included Varinder Singh Bajwa (SAD), Prabha Thakur (Congress), Nand Kumar Sai (BJP), Sabir Ali (LJP), Rajeev Shukla (Congress) and S Anbalagan (AIADMK).

It is for the second consecutive day that members were found to be absent during Question Hour, annoying the chairman. On Monday he said Rajya Sabha was in the process of amending rules to ensure that the problem was addressed.

"The rule is being amended and this situation shall be done away with very soon," Ansari had said.

The Question Hour in the Lok Sabha had collapsed on November 30 when 28 members, who had given notices for questions, were absent.
