New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is now back in his homeland after wrapping up a two-month-long gruelling ODI World Cup campaign on Indian soil. Despite putting up some remarkable performances during the league stage, the Black Caps had to surrender in front of hosts India in the semi-final. This was the second consecutive time that New Zealand fell marginally short of making it to the final of the ODI World Cup. They were knocked out by the eventual champions England in the 2019 edition.

Keeping aside the heartbreaks, Williamson was spotted enjoying family time in a recent picture posted on Instagram. The veteran cricketer was captured in a happy mood while sharing apples with his son and daughter.

“Cheers. Can cheer anything these days,” Williamson wrote in the caption of the post.

The picture grabbed the attention of many Indian cricket fans, who demonstrated their love and respect for the New Zealand skipper in the comment section.

Kane Williamson has encountered several setbacks due to injuries this year. The 33-year-old, however, was never looked out of form upon his return. Williamson first suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the first Indian Premier League (IPL) game earlier in March. The wound kept him out of action for a prolonged period.

Williamson remained sidelined in New Zealand’s first two league matches in the ODI World Cup. He made a roaring comeback against Bangladesh with a half-century. Williamson, however, could not complete the innings. He was forced to retire hurt at 78 after fracturing his thumb. His finger was hit by a throw from a Bangladeshi fielder.

Williamson was able to showcase his A-game with the bat despite his limited appearance during the campaign. After recovering from that thumb injury, the Kiwi captain played a 95-run knock against Pakistan in a crucial fixture. He also showed off his class during the semi-final against India.

After both of the openers were dismissed early, Williamson racked up a 181-run partnership with Daryl Mitchel, while his team had to chase a mammoth target of 398 runs. But his efforts went in vain as New Zealand ultimately lost the match by 70 runs.
