The 13th convocation ceremony of Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Lucknow, is set to honor 21 students, including a foreigner. The ceremony, scheduled for December 18, will celebrate the academic achievements of 110 graduates and postgraduates, with an additional recognition of three Ph.D. recipients, reported Times of India. BSV registrar Srishti Dhaon Rathore announced that among the 21 medal winners, an impressive 12 are accomplished young women.
Amritha Shvethambari Vidyapathy, hailing from Sri Lanka, has secured a silver medal in the Bachelor of Performing Arts (Kathak). Governor Anandiben Patel, also the university’s chancellor, will present the medals and degrees. Notably, Kathak maestro Shobhna Narayan will grace the occasion as the chief guest.
A week-long programme leading up to the convocation includes a two-day seminar on ‘Expressionism in Kathak’ and a Kathak workshop on December 14-15. Traditional games, art competitions, essays, writing, speeches, and patriotic songs will unfold from December 14-16. An alumni meeting on December 16 will provide a platform for graduates to connect and share experiences.
Following the convocation, Bhatkhande Sangeet Utsav is scheduled from December 19-21. The first day features captivating performances by singer Shashwati Mandal and an Odia group dance led by the esteemed dancer Ranjana Gauhar. On the second day, singer Brajeswar Mukherjee and tabla player Anando Chatterjee will take the stage for their performances. The third day marks the performance of Kedia brothers on sitar and sarod. There will be a group Kathak performance choreographed by Pandit Jaykishan Maharaj and folk singer Malini Awasthi, as stated by Rathore.
Gaurav Yadav from Alwar, Rajasthan, has added to the university’s pride by winning the Sword of Honour and the Gold Medal for ‘Officer Cadet Standing First in Order of Merit’ at the Indian Military Academy passing out parade in Dehradun. Following in the footsteps of his brother, Yadav cracked the National Defence Academy exam and earned the President’s Gold Medal last year. He is set to join the Gorkha Rifles regiment. Noteworthy recipients also include Sourabh Badhani, Alok Singh, Ajay Pant, and Sailesh Bhatta from Nepal.
Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyalaya is set to mark its 84th anniversary with the Bhatkhande Music Festival 2023 at the India Islamic Cultural Centre in New Delhi. The festival will showcase students’ performances in Hindustani Classical, Vocal, Kathak, tabla, and flute recitals. A special orchestra piece highlighting Raaga Ahir Bhairav will also be presented. The event will feature special performances, including a Hori sung by the youngest students, a Kathak recital by 6-7-year-olds, and a tarana sung by Neeti Mohan. The chief guest for the festival will be Sangita Saxena, with Pavan K. Varma as the guest of honor.
