India was dominated by the South African side in the first Test at Centurion where the hosts managed to secure the victory by an innings and 32 runs. South Africa was on point with the bat where Dean Elgar starred with 185 runs and with the ball where Kagiso Rabada picked up a fifer in the first innings and debutant Nandre Burger seven wickets across both innings on debut.
Virat Kohli looked to fight back in the second innings but his fellow batters kept giving away their wicket regularly as India went on to lose the game. India could be missing out on the experience of Ajinkya Rahane in the middle order who has had many partnerships with Kohli where they managed to pull India back in the game for the red-ball games.

Rahane last played for India during their tour of the West Indies in July earlier this year. He was part of the Indian side for a lot of their recent victories overseas. His most notable moment was at the MCG where he was now the skipper in the absence of Kohli. After facing massive backlash due to his run-out involvement in the 1st Test, Rahane came back strong to score a statement century against Australia to help his side secure the victory.

Rahane now is back to playing domestic cricket where he captains Mumbai and also plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and was part of the title-winning side in the 2023 edition of the IPL.
He will be aiming to make a strong statement for the selectors to warrant his selection and make his return to the Indian team once again.
