Vijay Deverakonda, who is gearing up for his pan-India debut with Karan Johar’s co-production ‘Liger’, says that he feels “alive” when he gets to act on a film set. However, the actor adds that his only purpose behind acting is to convey good stories and he doesn’t try to make a point through his cinema.
“Acting is just to tell stories. I don’t use it as a form of protest or to prove a point of some kind. If I really like the story and connect with it and its characters and if I feel that it’s a good story to tell in some form then I use the platform of acting to convey that story. From action to cut and the day on set, that’s the best part about being an actor. Everything else is nonsense,” Vijay told us.
Vijay, best known for films such as ‘Arjun Reddy’, ‘Geetha Govindam’, and ‘Taxiwaala’, further says he doesn’t see acting as a platform where he could channel his inner conflicts or any kind of personal experiences. “I usually use the medium of talking or abusing for that (laughs).”
In an industry where people are used to being a little cautious and diplomatic with their opinions, Vijay has never shied away to speak his mind– be it his controversial stance on dictatorship or statements regarding ‘Arjun Reddy’ and ‘Kabir Singh’ criticism.
Does he not feel afraid? “I feel everything is temporary whether it’s me being an actor or having this stardom. Everything has an end date on this planet. So I feel like when I’m gone, I’m gone but I will live life on my own terms till I’m here. I’m not a robot. We have enough people being robotic and mining whatever is the popular opinion. I don’t believe in anybody telling me what I should think or say or how I should cloth or behave. These are my choices.”
