'Size Zero' Review: It is an enjoyable treat for Anushka Shetty's fans
While ‘Size Zero’ initially crawls out of the title cards like a Disney production, it takes two more hours to come back to the point where it started.

Cast: Anushka, Arya, Urvashi, Sonal Chauhan, Prakash Raj, Gollapudi Maruti Rao.

Director: Prakash Rao Kovelamudi

Rating: 3 out of 5

I wonder if ‘Size Zero’ and the Aamir Khan – Anushka Sharma starrer ‘PK’ were written in the same room. While ‘PK’ chose to drive away superstitious beliefs, ‘Size Zero’ tries to tie a few knots around the misconceptions about having the right body. There’s even a bit allotted to a televised debate between Anushka and Prakash Raj about the ill effects of the methods adopted by a slimming center. Prakash Raj, obviously, plays the “I’m the victim card” like how Saurabh Shukla as a godman played in ‘PK’.

While ‘Size Zero’ initially crawls out of the title cards like a Disney production, it takes two more hours to come back to the point where it started. Sweety (Anushka) wears the perfume of a charmer throughout the film. She’s there in every scene in plus sized clothes and at the other end of a long stick that usually tickles her the wrong way for being overweight. Urvashi who plays her mother is best described in her own words – drama queen. She is loud and judgmental. Perhaps, the quality of a mother (according to the writer) who is worried that her daughter won’t be able to marry an NRI because she’s fat!

We saw an angry middle-aged woman in ‘Baahubali’ and a woman who carried confused aggression in ‘Rudhramadevi’. In ‘Size Zero’, the same actor makes us forget that she was the one who starred in the earlier films. The picture of her holding swords and entering a battlefield with smirks is totally absent.

This is the mark of an actor. And this is where Anushka never fails. Arya, for his part, does the job of a supporting actor well. He doesn’t send ten guys in the air with a kick. He’s, in fact, a guy who doesn’t touch carbohydrates after 8 PM. Their romantic conjunction is a slow burn. Such good actors were also a part of the nightmare (‘Irandaam Ulagam’ / ‘Varna’). Thankfully, ‘Size Zero’ doesn’t play anywhere near the mistake that Selvaraghavan made.

Gollapudi Maruti Rao is a grandfather who provides instant happiness by sharing his jalebis with Anushka. That’s Mr. Cool for you! I am surprised that Prakash Raj isn’t tired of all the bad man roles he gets in Telugu cinema. The bad man gets another role to showcase his vileness to the world whereas Sonal Chauhan is the foreign object that doesn’t mix with what’s going on in the film and in the scenes where Anushka’s mind overtakes reality, the teen comedy treatment just doesn’t work. It’s as useless as having the 'Size Zero' item song.

I can’t imagine anybody else in Anushka’s pants. Without her, the world of ‘Size Zero’ would be motherless.
