The much-awaited biopic on legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) hit theatres today. Titled NTR Kathanayakudu, the film tracks the glorious journey of NTR in films and politics. Nandamuri Balakrishna plays his late father in the film while Bollywood actress Vidya Balan essays the role of NTR's wife, Basavatarakam.
The film, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, also features Sumanth, Prakash Raj, Sachin Khedekar, Rana Daggubati and Rakul Preet Singh in key roles in the two-part Telugu biopic.
The first reviews for the biographical drama began pouring in early Wednesday morning. Anusha Iyengar of Times Now praised Balan by writing "Vidya Balan made sure that she doesn’t go unnoticed in the film. She played every shade of her character beautifully." However, complaining about film's length, she wrote, "The film was way too long and second, it has been haphazardly shot. There are issues with continuity, editing and even writing, to an extent."
Neeshita Nyayapati of Times of India called the film a "dramatic overdrawn." Although she lauded the performances from Balakrishna, Balan and other actors, she said the film lagged pace.
Siddhartha Toleti of Mirchi 9 called the film one-time watch, adding "There is nothing bad per se but if one were expecting a classic and memorable outing, it is not the case." Krishna of Telugu360 rated the film 3/5. In his analysis of the film, he wrote, "This film is a good Deja vu experience through the life of Legend for his fans and sympathisers. Also, this film may appeal for those who doesn’t know much about NTR’s cine life. However, current generation youth may complain the film is flat and/or slow, that is due to director Krish did not try to inject cinematic elevations."
