The 70th National Film Awards is honouring the best in Indian cinema at the Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi. Director and actor Rishab Shetty attended the ceremony to receive his award for Kantara. While receiving the award from President Droupadi Murmu, he expressed his joy and mentioned how his win would inspire others.
Speaking at the National Film Awards, Rishab Shetty spoke about how he feels proud to have won this prestigious award. He also added how his win will inspire the regional film industry to push the boundaries in cinema. Shetty said, “I feel extremely proud and glad to have received the National Award as it gives recognition to the Kannada film industry. It gives motivation to the upcoming generations of actors and filmmakers of the regional film industries of India, and they feel charged up to perform better in pursuit of national recognition.”
The director continued, “For me and my contemporaries, it allows us to push the envelope as getting a National Award is a huge responsibility as much as it is an honour. It gives us the responsibility to strive hard and chase excellence.”
Directed by Shetty, Kantara is set in coastal Karnataka. The film revolves around a young tribal man who seeks justice by using the ways of his ancestors. It stars Shetty in a dual role. Produced by Hombale Films, it went on to become the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time. It also became the fourth highest-grossing film in India in 2022. Kantara has won several accolades. It was recently featured at the 54th IFFI Indian Panorama section where it also won the Silver Peacock – Special Jury Award. The makers of the film are currently working on the prequel which has been titled, Kantara: Chapter 1.
