Alia Bhatt-starrer Highway, a 2014 road movie, has completed three years. And the best thing that we’ve got ever since the film hit the theatres is Alia – the actor!
The actress, who entered Bollywood in what can easily be referred to as the dream debut – by bagging the female lead role in a Karan Johar film, could only earn appreciation for her look and not acting potential! Later, she appeared on Karan Johar’s TV show. And by not being able to answer one question correctly, she was mocked, hated and targeted for her ignorance. For at least a year, she was derided via memes, jokes and trolls.
However, it was only with Imtiaz Ali’s Highway which was released in 2014 that she impressed both fans and critics with the ease with which she handled her role. Highway was shot in approximately six different locations and captured the journey of two diametrically opposite people who are together just because of fate.
With the success of Highway, Alia was forgotten as a snob that she played in Student Of The Year, and started earning recognition for playing a girl who falls for her kidnapper in Imtiaz's directorial venture. What’s interesting to see is Alia’s career graph post Highway.
Even though she's just 23, there's no mincing words on detractors’ part when it comes to lauding her ability to slip into different roles with ease. The daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and yesteryear actress Soni Razdan gets into the skin of the character so easily that the viewers can’t see any trace of her real life personality on big screen.
If Udta Punjab, the most difficult film of her career helped Alia as a Bihari immigrant trying to break away from the shackles of the drug menace in Punjab convincingly, she proved she is a ‘director’s actor’ and that sky is the limit for her in her latest releases Kapoor and Sons and Dear Zindagi.
