Aamir Ali opened up on his rocky journey from an aspiring film star to TV actor. He confessed that running out of money pushed him to take on low-profile TV roles, but behind closed doors, he was embarrassed about it. He remembered how he’d break down in front of his friends, who couldn’t believe he was settling for TV work.
In a chat with BLive Studio, Aamir said that he didn’t have a mentor to guide him, leading him to sign up for films with clueless independent producers. Most of the movies he shot never saw the light of day. While he was holding out hope for that big debut, his savings were slipping through his fingers. “I got a call from a Balaji, and they asked if I’d be interested in doing television. When I said yes, they were shocked,” he said.
He said he would run out of money but still saw himself as a movie star, so he didn’t want to do TV. For the first month, his friends from the film industry pitied him and asked why he was doing television. He said, “I’d run out of money. But I didn’t want to do TV because I thought of myself as a movie star… For the first month, my friends from the film industry would pity me. They would ask why I’m doing television, and I would weep in front of them. I was in bad shape. I would cry in front of Sohail Khan, Remo D’Souza, Hansal Mehta…”
Aamir recalled how he would cry in public places. “I would cry on the streets, in the gym, everywhere. I was so upset about having to do TV. I don’t know if anybody else remembers, but I remember. Sohail Khan was my co-star at the time, even he asked me what I was doing with myself. I laugh about it now, but I can’t even tell you what I was going through back then,” he said.
Aamir eventually became a well-known TV star. On the personal front, Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh, who was last seen in Heeramandi, married in 2012 and welcomed a daughter via surrogacy in 2018. The couple separated in 2020 and finalised their divorce in 2021.
