India Runway Week 2015: Of celebrities and impressive ensembles
The much talked about fashion extravaganza ‘India Runway Week, Winter/ Festive 2015, organized by Indian Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD) was held from 4-6th September in the capital. A blend of good music and trendy collections summed up the event. Featuring collections of ace designers and budding designers, this youngest fashion movement showcased the talent of around 36 designers in 14 fashion shows.

New Delhi: The much talked about fashion extravaganza ‘India Runway Week, Winter/ Festive 2015, organized by Indian Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD) was held from 4-6th September in the capital. A blend of good music and trendy collections summed up the event. Featuring collections of ace designers and budding designers, this youngest fashion movement showcased the talent of around 36 designers in 14 fashion shows.

The show commenced with a grand opening by the ace designer Himmat Singh’s ‘Royal Heritage Collection’. Singer Mika Singh and actor Darshan Kumar graced the ramp for the designer. The collection featured the royal era and lineage that Rajasthan is famous for. Deeply rooted to his culture, the ensembles were a classic blend of culture and traditions. When asked about why he chose Mika to be his showstopper, Himmat Singh laughed and said because he is a great fan of my clothing. The gifted designer expressed his desire to participate in International Fashion Festivals and also claimed to be taking part in Milan Fashion Week to be held in 2016.

Darshan Kumar, who is much appreciated for his roles in ‘Mary Kom’ and ‘NH10’, confessed about his love for singing and mentioned about a musical play for which he underwent a 6 month training session. When asked about his desire for action films, the national level boxer boasted about his love for boxing and the fact that he has been training in kick boxing since past 5 years. He also revealed that he will next be seen on the silver screen in April, the time his next movie is scheduled to release.

“Whatever you wear you should feel comfortable, even if you’re in shorts and a vest, you should be able to walk on the road”, he answered when asked about his personal style mantra. Reminiscing about his old ramp walks, he felt it’s a different feeling this time to walk the ramp in ethnic outfits with his past collections comprising only of western outfits.

“In India, I would love to walk for Manish Malhotra,” the actor said when we asked him about his favorite designer across the world.

The happy go lucky actor, who didn’t disappoint his fans who were waiting to get clicked, wishes to find more time for fashion shows from his hectic schedule. “I love his style, whatever he wears, he feels comfortable,” he said crediting Brad Pitt to be his fashion icon.

The grand opening was followed by the showcase of ensembles of various budding designers. Gauri Couture by Nikheil, Rivendra and Twinkle portrayed a collection entitled ‘Mastaani’ which was inspired by the old school ghungroos., Hetal Shah’s Boho Rani collection presented a blend of Bohemian style and Indian traditional sarees. Other designers such as Biba Kohli, Neetu Singh, Anupam Kumar, Akshay Wadwa, Megha and Jigar, Aliahmed Shaikh and Ashfaque Ahmad kept the spirits high for the first day.

The second day witnessed the gorgeous Gauahar Khan turning as showstopper for ‘Boudoir Collection’ by the jewellery designer Akassh K Aggarwal. The collection recreated the era of grandeur on the ramp. With the use of flora and fauna motifs, the exotic Indian celebration involved versatile options and combinations of diamonds, emeralds, pearls and sapphires and other semi precious stones. As stunning as always, the 32-year-old star has stood up for a cause by walking the ramp for the 'Marital Rape' inspired of the designer. The actress looked like an epitome of beauty in the bridal avatar and temple jewellery.

Designers such as Rishi and Soujit, Kanika and Sugandh, Bani Pasricha, Divya Shah and Lipsa Jain and Ojasvita Mahendru and Nidhi Kejriwal dazzled the ramp with their collections.

The final day began with a bang with the talented designers Manish Gupta and Shravan Kumar Ramaswamy showcasing their magnificent ensembles. TV actor Mohit Malhotra added glamour to Manish Gupta’s collections that were inspired by Vrindavan, as he walked the ramp for the designer. The designer won the hearts of the audience with small children from an orphanage ‘Udayan Ghar’ walking the stage for him. The maestro designer Sharav Kumar Ramaswamy featured attires that involved handloom collections like Kalamkari, mangalagiri, Madhavaram, Narayanpret, Chirala, Chunnur Khadi and Venkatagiri. His soul aim is to help the Indian weavers. Bollywood celebrity Adah Sharma graced the ramp for his collections.

Designers like Ekta Goel, Kinjal Khimasia, Pankaj Singh, Karan Sanger, Garima Sharma, Liz Paul and Satya Mishra, Tanya Patni, Priyanka Shenoy, Akanksha and Dhruv, Rohini Gugnani and Roop Vatika also received plaudits for their stupendous collections.

The 3 day fashion gala of the youngest fashion movement was welcomed with full vigour and glitz by the audience. The Fall Winter Collections 2015-16 was splendid in its own mystical way.
