ERODE: A woman allegedly set herself and her two children on fire in her residence at Sangu Nagar, Erode, on Friday.In the afternoon, local residents noticed thick smoke coming out of the upmarket residence owned by Saravanaraj (35), a garment exporter. They then forced their way into the bedroom, to see the mother and two children engulfed in flames.Subathra (30), wife of Saravanarj and her two-year-old daughter Ilakkiya, died on the spot. Fire service personnel, who later arrived, managed to rescue Subathra’s son, Lingeswaran (9). The boy was rushed to a private hospital. While Saravanaraj was out of station when the incident occurred, his father Soundarrajan (70) and mother Kanchanamala (65), who were in another room of the house, found out what was happening only after the hue and cry made by those who had forced their way inside.
