TIRUPATI: The police launched a manhunt for Muniraja, an undertrial who escaped from custody while he was being taken to Chittoor in the wee hours of Tuesday. Alipiri CI Katamaraju said Muniraja was taken to Kurnool from Chittoor subjail to produce him in court. After producing him in court on Monday, the three policemen who took Muniraja, boarded a bus to return to Chittoor. At Kadapa, two of the constables got down, leaving only one constable to escort the undertrial.
Around 2 am, Muniraja requested the bus driver to stop the vehicle to respond nature's call. Constable Ramesh who was escorting him, allowed Muniraja to get down from the bus. Muniraja who went to the roadside to answer nature's call, vanished in the darkness. Ramesh, who made a futile search for Muniraja, lodged a complaint with the Alipiri police.
