New Delhi: Three Indian Navy personnel were killed and 20 others injured in a major fire on board Navy's largest landing ship INS Magar on Wednesday off Vishakhapattanam coast in the Bay of Bengal.

A Navy spokesman said the fire broke out when a freak missile - part of the ship's ammunition scrap - accidentally misfired in the middle of the sea killing three and injuring 20 people.

The fire was brought under control by Coast Guard and Naval ships after battling for over an hour.

An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

The injured sailors were airlifted and rushed to Naval hospital in Kalyani where condition of three were reportedly serious.

Nearly two months ago, a similar incident had occurred in Visakhapatnam when a missile in the leftovers of the Naval ammunition blew off killing a handicapped girl.

Incidentally, just 10 days ago on February 12th, the Eastern Command of Indian Navy had conducted a colourful President's Fleet Review displaying its military might.
