NEW DELHI: The issue of separate Telangana continues to haunt the UPA government. BJP senior leader and Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj will initiate a discussion on the issue under the Call Attention Motion in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Congress MPs from Telangana, who have submitted their resignations, have decided to depute two MPs to participate in the discussion. Though the presiding officers of Parliament have not taken any decision on their resignations, they have decided not to attend the Monsoon Session. “If there is a discussion in the Lok Sabha on Telangana on Friday, two members will attend the House,” Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao told Express. The MPs on Tuesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanded that the controversial clause 14(f) be deleted from the Presidential Order at the earliest. Referring to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement that a fresh resolution calling for the deletion of the clause should be adopted by the State Assembly, the MPs explained to Singh that the resolution was passed unanimously in the Assembly in March, 2010 and said there was no need for another resolution. They also pointed out that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had already written a letter to the Centre in this regard. After giving them a patient hearing, the Prime Minister is said to have told them that he was yet to look at the letter. On the issue of Telangana, he told the MPs he had already directed Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to hold consultations with party leaders.
