Anti-Corruption Bureau officials conducted searches on the houses of a tahsildar and her relatives at different places in the state on Sunday and seized documents of properties worth `80 lakh as per government value and Rs 2 crore as per market value.
They also found receipts for 600 gm of mortgaged gold. She was taken into custody in Kurnool.
According to Anti-Corruption Bureau officials, they received information that T Anjanadevi, who had worked as tahsildar at Kallur in Kurnool district and is in vacancy reserve now, possessed assets disproportionate to known sources of her income.
Based on the information, Anti-Corruption Bureau officials formed four teams and conducted simultaneous searches at her and her relatives’ houses in Guntur and Kurnool towns.
Kurnool ACB DSP R Vijaypal said the seized documents pertained to three flats and a timber depot in Guntur, and two houses and a house-site in Kurnool.
Searches were also conducted in the houses of her car driver and document writer in Kurnool.
The tahsildar’s husband, S Kumar, is a timber merchant in Guntur.According to sources, the CPM had launched an agitation in Kurnool a few days ago against Anjanadevi, accusing her of corruption.
The party also lodged a complaint with police.
