After introducing people to the their brand of folk-rock music in their debut album in 2009, Bengalurubased Swarathma is now all set to launch its sophomore album Topiwalleh.Currently on their 10-city ‘Restless’ tour to promote their music, the band says that this time they are more sure of what kind of music they reflect, with every song being a take on a veritable issue that’s affecting the society today.“Be it the existing political scenario, child sexual abuse or the rampant consumerism, Topiwalleh is one such album which conveys a message in every song. We believe that such issues have to be dealt with sensitivity and have to be given as much importance as possible,” Jishnu says. The albumThe collection consists of 10 songs, of which Topiwalleh talks about the present political scene in a quirky twist, Ghum talks about child sexual abuse, Aaj Ki Taaza Fikar deals with the sensationalism created by media to sell news and Kooraane which talks of rampant consumerism and the various offers and discounts in the malls.Naane Daari (Kannada) which emphasises on the power of youth and Rishton Ka Raasta which talks about distances in relationships are also part of the line-up.The songsThe Topiwalleh song was a part of Saaku, an anti-corruption rally that was held in Bengaluru in 2010.“We were so happy when the organisers approached us for the cause. We did the song for them as we want our music to speak for us.” Explaining more on Ghum, Jishnu says, “It took us about one-and-a-half year to compose this song, as child abuse is much more serious that just talk shows or movies. Indian children are the most prone to sexual abuse in the world. There is a need of understanding among the family to keep the child attached and secure. This song is a child’s expression of being lost.”Since their debut album, it has taken the band three years to come up with their second album.“It took us a lot of time to sort everything just the way we wanted it to be. As musicians, we have definitely all grown together over the years and also have started coordinating well as a band. We have put in a lot of effort into its making. I am hoping people will love it,” says Jishnu.Reaching outSwarathma has also launched contests and giveaways to celebrate the release of their new album. They plan to take a fan on tour with them, giving them a unique chance to be a part of the band’s touring experience. Not just that, the band will also play acoustic concerts for fans at their homes, exclusively for their friends and family and will also give away a handpainted Epiphone guitar.“We have always believed in reaching out to our fans both on-stage and of, and this series of contests is a way to open up our world to the people who have supported us all these days. This album launch tour is a way for us to strengthen the bond we share with them and create wonderful memories for us and our listeners."Biryani connectAnd what is the band expecting from Hyderabad? “We come to Hyderabad only for Biryani,” laughs Jishnu and adds, “We have performed in Hyderabad about 10 times and every performance has been very memorable. We get a lot of openhearted love from Hyderabadis and we are looking forward to perform here."Swarathma will be performing at Hard Rock Cafe today as a part of their album launch at 9 pm.
