BANGALORE: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah accused the state government of having abjectly failed to tackle the acute drought situation prevailing in 110 taluks spread across 22 districts.“It is deplorable that the no meeting of the drought monitoring cell has been conducted either at the state level or at the district level because of which the DCs have not been able to make a meaningful expenditure to redress the situation,” Siddaramaiah said, while initiating the discussion on the drought situation in the Assembly here on Monday.Painting a grim picture of the helpless people migrating from rural areas to urban centres in search of jobs, Siddaramaiah alleged that there had been no coordination between the departments such as revenue and RDPR to halt this migration.“On account of this, there is all sorts of pressure on the urban infrastructure while villages wore a deserted look. I am forced to say that Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has failed to assess the situation and take immediate remedial measures,” the leader of the Opposition added.According to Siddaramaiah, the DCs had money in their account to the tune of Rs 89 crores as on December 2, but they have not spent it to tackle drought as there has been no plan of action by the state government.“The DCs will implement the policies framed by the state. But in this case, the state government is busy in everything except tackling drought,” he added. Continuing his diatribe against the state government, Siddaramaiah said goshalas (cattle camps), fodder bank and drinking water for cattle had not been established in as many number as they were required.
