CHENNAI: State Bank of India, Chennai circle, on Saturday launched three bank-on-wheel vehicles designated to visit villages across the week to extend their banking services. With these, Tamil Nadu will now have seven such mobile banks. Launching these in the city, Pratip Choudhuri, chairman of SBI, said the Bank-on-Wheels programme was part of the financial inclusion plan of SBI. Under this system, the mobile banks will visit six villages twice a week at a predetermined time, and camp there for two hours to serve the people. Two of these vans will cater to different parts of Chennai and Tiruvallur districts, while the third will be used in Pudhucherry. During the event, a Toyota Innova and an Eicher mini bus were being given away to Mohan Foundation and MedIndia Charitable Trust respectively. “As part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility programme, we earmark one percent of our net profits annually to be given to an organisation working for a noble cause. There are only two conditions for an organisation to fulfil to avail of this: donations to the organisation should be eligible for tax exemption under 80 G , and the organisation should have an account with the SBI,” said Pratip Choudhuri.  Mohan Foundation would utilise the vehicle for creating awareness of organ donation across the city, while MedIndia Charitable Trust would use the vehicle to transport its paramedical staff.
