Bollywood actress Rimi Sen has initiated legal proceedings against luxury car manufacturer Land Rover, seeking a substantial compensation of Rs 50 crores. The claim arises from what she describes as a “faulty” vehicle, which has caused her significant distress and inconvenience since its purchase in 2020. The report, highlighted by NDTV, sheds light on the ongoing battle between the actress and the carmaker.
Rimi Sen bought the luxury vehicle for Rs 92 lakh from Satish Motors Pvt. Ltd., an authorised dealer for Jaguar Land Rover. The car came with a warranty valid until January 2023. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns, the car was rarely used until restrictions were lifted. Once she began driving the car regularly, Sen alleges that she encountered several defects, including issues with the sunroof, sound system, and rear-end camera.
A particularly troubling incident occurred on August 25, 2022, when a malfunctioning rear-end camera reportedly caused her to collide with a pillar. Despite reporting these issues to the dealership, Sen claims that her complaints were not adequately addressed. According to her, the dealer demanded proof of the defects before taking any action, leading to repeated cycles of inadequate repairs where one problem was allegedly fixed only for another to arise.
In her legal notice, Rimi Sen argues that the car is inherently defective, both in its manufacturing and in the maintenance provided by the authorized dealer. She states that the vehicle has been sent for repairs more than ten times, yet the issues persist, causing her considerable mental anguish and inconvenience.
As a result of these ongoing problems, Sen is demanding Rs 50 crores in compensation for the distress she has endured, as well as an additional Rs 10 lakh to cover her legal expenses. Furthermore, she is seeking the replacement of the defective vehicle, marking a significant legal confrontation with the luxury car brand.
