Amicus curiae V Ramkumar Nambiar on Thursday submitted before the Kerala High Court that circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of Bihari youth Satnam Singh, who was arrested by the Karunagapally police from the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, should thoroughly be probed.

However, a Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice K Vinod Chandran said that “no particular order is called for at this point of time” since the Crime Branch investigation was in progress.

The court observed that no order was necessary at this stage on a report by amicus curiae dealing with mental issue seeking a directive to the authorities concerned to submit an action taken report.  The report said that Satnam was brutally assaulted.

“The questions as to who allowed a mentally challenged person to enter the ashram, who and how he was apprehended, how he suffered injuries and what caused his death need to be unravelled. The death of a mentally challenged person could not be brushed aside lightly.

His right had been deprived. It was the duty of the state to protect the mentally challenged. The persons behind such heinous acts should be brought to book,” the report said.
