New Delhi: Samsung's new flagship phone the Galaxy S III is likely to be priced at Rs 42,500 in India, said a source with access to information on the pricing.
During Samsung's Galaxy S III launch event on May 3, the company announced three variants of the Galaxy S III smartphone - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Our source, however, didn't reveal whether the Rs 42,500 price tag is for the base 16GB model or for the top of the line version. But given the price sensitivity even at the top end of the smartphone market in India, the Rs 42,500 price would be for the most expensive version.
When contacted, Samsung India, expectedly, refused to comment.
The phone will hit Indian shores in the month of June, soon after its European debut on May 29, Samsung's spokesperson said. Our source says that the India launch will be before June 10.
The phone features a 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It has an 8 megapixel rear camera with flash and zero shutter lag and a 1.9 megapixel front camera, which are believed to offer users a wide variety of camera features and face recognition related options.
Weighing 133g, the phone is only 8.6 mm thick. The Samsung Galaxy S III runs Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, operating system. The new Galaxy is powered by Samsung's quad-core microprocessor.
